Welcome to the first episode of Closet Deep Dive! I’m so excited about this series because I get a lot of photos from my readers asking if an item in their closet is something they should keep… or how to wear it.
I love giving you ideas on how to wear your clothes… and giving you advice on colors! It’s my thing 😉
So, to kick off this series, I’m going to share with you a sweater that I bought myself to wear with a pair of faux leather pants for a holiday party. But the thing is… the sweater is dark… and it doesn’t do a lot for me. I’m a light spring. Blonde hair, fair skin and light green eyes. So, a dark sweater can be a bit drowning.
Here’s the sweater…
Now, the one thing that works for me in the sweater is the grey. It is more grey than black… but black is not in my color palette. It’s harsh.
So, how did I wear it for the party? Well, for the party, I kept with the plan for wearing the shiny leather pants. And since it was a holiday party, I wrapped a true red scarf around my neck. Easy and done!
For a second outfit idea, I want to lighten up the look. When you have an item that’s not in your best colors… or in your colors at all… the best thing to do is add in one of your BEST colors to brighten you up. One of the best colors for a light spring is a pretty medium pink.
I added a pink scarf, a more intense pink skirt with black tights and black knee high boots.
I pulled from my light spring color palette a turquoise button down blouse to wear under the sweater. That also puts a great color close to my face. Keeping with that color scheme, I’d add in a darker turquoise bag. LOVE the bag. Camel is another great neutral and color for a light spring… so I added a coat. Love this color combo.
Do you have an item in your closet that you need help styling? Something you bought that you haven’t worn yet because you have no idea how to wear it? Send me a photo of it and let’s have some fun!
