Just before our beach trip, Mindy made the request to get pedicures.
“Cuz our toes have to look cute in our flip-flops,” she declared.
I whole heartedly agreed!
On a Friday, we, actually she, drove us over to our favorite nail salon. Honestly, I’m not exactly sure why we keep going there. It’s not that nice and the owner’s kids run a muck while we’re trying to relax and enjoy our foot massages.
Note to self: look for a different nail salon. Life is too short to settle.
The first thing you do when you enter a nail salon is choose your nail polish color.
I quickly found a bright turquoise blue. The color of the ocean. How fun is that?!
Mindy had in her hand a bottle of pink nail polish but clearly wasn’t satisfied with her choice.
After a moment, she said “I really want to paint my nails yellow.” She was almost afraid to say it out loud.
Yellow? I think. I’m not gonna lie, I was judging a little bit. Yellow isn’t a color I would choose for ME but whatever.
Mindy turned to me anxiously and asked “Can I get a manicure too? I just really want this yellow on my nails.”
Now, the color she chose wasn’t a crayon yellow. It was a slightly lighter bright yellow. A true hue, not golden or green.
I told her, “Of course!”
We both relaxed into foot massages. I looked over as the yellow nail polish was being applied to her toes. Mindy beamed at me with a grin.
“I just love this color! It’s so joyful. It just makes me happy.”
That was all I needed to hear. She was having her nails painted a joyful color. And, you know how I am about doing what makes you happy, no matter other people think.
An hour later, we hobbled out of there with my blue toes and her yellow nails. She was so happy with the color. She smiled all the way home.
What color just makes you smile? Brings you joy when you see it?
You don’t have to wear it. Get a blanket in it or something to put on your desk. Maybe a pillow in the color. I think if Mindy could have a car in that yellow, she would.
What color do you love but you don’t have it anywhere in your world? Why not?
Give yourself permission to love a color no matter other people’s opinions of that color are. Pop it into your world to surround yourself with joyful emotions.
This is your life and you have the power to design it anyway you want.
Talk to you tomorrow!
