Yes! Yes! Yes! I did it!
ME! Never had I thought I could run 2+ hours… 13+ miles… and finish feeling amazing! Running a half marathon? I was the person who said things like:
- I’m not built to be a long distance runner
- I think I’m too old to start running like that now
- I hate running outside
- I get bored running for more than 30 minutes
- Why would I want to run for that long??
- My knees bother me
- I have really bad bursitis in my hip
- That’s just not my thing
But then… I decided in December 2014… that I wanted to do something outside my comfort zone. Something that was achievable but would stretch me… evolve me… change me.
I also happened to be trying to slim down… and I just thought… you know what… I’m going to train to run a half marathon.
And that’s what I did. I found Jeff Galloway’s training program… which was a life saver and I highly recommend it.
And here I am! A person who will proudly display the 13.1 sticker on her car!
For your info, I ran the Wine Country Half Marathon in Purceville, VA. It was beautiful and through the mountains along country roads. The weather was overcast, cool and misty. Perfect. We even had a 10 minute rain… which didn’t bother any of us.
My goal was to run the race in 2 hours 15 minutes. Actually, I planned on FINISHING the race… and then because I gotta be competitive with myself… I set the time goal. And I finished in 2 hours 15 minutes and 43 seconds. BOOM
This race was very well done and was hosted by destination races. I will definitely do this race again next year.
I wanna do it again! I’m going to find another half marathon race in the fall and train to improve my time!
I feel great!
