Introducing the Your Color Style Color Analysis Tool: A Faster, Smarter Way to Discover Your Best Colors

If you've ever tried to figure out your best colors—or analyze someone else's—you know the questions can be tricky. Are they warm or cool? Do light or deep colors work better? Do bright colors bring their face to life, or do softer colors create more harmony?

That's why I created the Your Color Style digital color analysis tools: to make those comparisons easier to see, rather than relying on guesses about someone's hair, eyes, or skin tone.

In this video, I demonstrate the foundational photo preparation and structured analysis workflow. The video shows an earlier version of the tool; today's Your Color Style professional platform includes additional client and palette features.

What does the Your Color Style Color Analysis Tool do?

The tool supports a visual, structured process for analyzing a photo. Instead of jumping to a seasonal label, you compare how different colors interact with the face using the three characteristics at the heart of the Your Color Style method:

  • Depth: Light, medium, and deep colors.
  • Undertone: Warm, cool, and olive considerations.
  • Chroma: Clear, bright colors compared with softer, muted colors.

How online color analysis works

1. Prepare the photo

Upload a suitable photo, remove distracting backgrounds, and use the photo preparation controls to evaluate lighting, temperature, and contrast. Photo quality matters: software adjustments cannot fully correct an unsuitable image.

2. Compare depth

View lighter and deeper color options around the face. Notice which colors look harmonious and which seem too heavy or too pale.

3. Evaluate undertone

Compare warm and cool colors and consider how olive coloring may affect the result. Look for changes in apparent clarity, shadows, and balance.

4. Assess chroma

Compare clearer, brighter colors with softer, more muted colors. This final characteristic can make a substantial difference to the overall recommendation.

Who are these tools for?

Aspiring and practicing professionals—including color analysts, stylists, image consultants, and beauty professionals—can use the YCS Professional Membership to support client analysis. The professional workspace includes photo preparation, guided structured analysis, client records, palette and reporting tools, and the Lip & Draping Studio for side-by-side color comparisons. Client digital palette delivery uses separately purchased credits.

People exploring their own colors can choose the separate DIY Color Analysis option, designed for personal learning rather than professional client management.

Can you learn color analysis from the software alone?

The visual tools help you compare colors consistently, but sound interpretation still takes knowledge and practice. The demonstration video above focuses on how the tool works; it is not a complete professional training course. Today's Professional Membership includes learning resources alongside the software.

If you're just getting started, the free analysis walkthrough is a useful first step. For structured practice and assessed work toward a credential, see the separate YCS Color Analysis Certification program.
