Signature Color Analysis Example: Soft, Cool & Deep

Have you ever wondered what a Signature Color Analysis actually looks like? In this video, Jen Vax from Your Color Style walks you through a real client’s analysis—shared with permission—so you can see exactly how we determine someone’s most flattering colors.
How We Do a Signature Color Analysis
When a client submits a photo, we look at far more than meets the eye. We ask important questions, like:
-
Do you color your hair?
-
What would your natural hair color be if grown out?
These details help us understand both your current coloring and your natural coloring, which can influence your best color palette.
In this particular case, the client has very dark brown dyed hair with some natural ash brown and gray roots coming in. Her eye color is fairly light, offering a beautiful contrast.
Let’s dive into her results...
Step 1: Determining Depth
Her dyed hair places her in the Deep category. Even though her natural coloring might be closer to medium, we always analyze based on your current appearance and take future transitions into account when offering guidance.
Step 2: Warm vs Cool Undertones
After draping her in both warm and cool tones, it was clear she looked more harmonious in cool colors. Her features brightened, and the tones blended better with her skin—without being overwhelmed or dulled.
Step 3: Bright vs Soft Chroma
This client sits somewhere between bright and soft chroma, but soft is the better match. Bright Cool & Deep would be too intense and overpowering. Instead, we chose Soft Cool & Deep, which still includes vibrant colors—just slightly toned down for a balanced, elegant effect.
Her Signature Colors
From her final color palette, we selected 20 signature colors—the shades that made her look stunning. These include:
💖 Best Colors:
-
White, orchid pink, lavender, teal waters, soft green
-
Cool reds and muted purples that enhance her natural coloring
🎨 Best Neutrals:
-
Wash black
-
Deep cool taupe
-
Shark blue
-
Soft white
🌈 Bonus Pops of Color:
-
Stormy sky blue
-
Light lemon yellow (which plays off the yellow in her eyes)
-
Icy pinks and a deep purple that flatter her beautifully
Why Soft Cool & Deep Works for Her
Her palette brings out her natural features without overpowering them. It’s a rich, moody, and balanced mix of cool, soft tones that can adapt with her—especially as she transitions from dyed to natural hair.
