Warm vs. Cool Undertones: A Simple Test to Find Yours (No Vein Test Needed!)

Have you ever stood in front of the mirror and thought, “Why does this color make me look so tired?” Or maybe you bought a beautiful top, wore it once, and never again—because something just felt off.
It’s not the fit.
It’s likely the undertone.
In this video, I’ll show you a few simple, no-fuss ways to figure out if you’re warm or cool toned—and no, we’re not talking about the vein test. 🙅♀️ That’s one test I never rely on.
👇 Watch the video now to find your undertone:
💡 What Is an Undertone?
Your undertone is the underlying temperature of your skin—and it doesn't change with tanning or makeup. Most people lean either:
-
Warm (golden, peachy, yellow tones)
-
Cool (rosy, pink, bluish tones)
Even if you appear neutral or have an olive skin tone, you’ll still lean warm or cool.
Wearing the wrong undertone can make you look tired, shadowed, or even sickly. But the right undertone lifts your whole face—making you look fresh, vibrant, and naturally glowing.
🧣 Test #1: The White vs. Cream Test
This is one of the easiest and most effective ways to get a feel for your undertone.
Hold something pure white up to your face, then switch to ivory or cream.
-
If white looks better—your skin looks brighter, teeth whiter, and your pink undertones pop—you likely have cool undertones.
-
If cream looks better—your skin glows with warmth and the white feels harsh or makes your skin look dull—you likely have warm undertones.
🟡 Reminder: These might not be your best colors, but we’re looking for harmony. The right undertone will feel balanced and subtle—not jarring or washed out.
🎨 Test #2: Warm vs. Cool Color Draping
Let’s have some fun with color! This is my favorite way to reveal your undertone.
Compare a cool color (like a blue-based pink or magenta) with a warm color (like a tomato red or golden rust) near your face.
-
If the cool color looks like it’s sitting on top of your skin and draws attention away from your features, you might be warm.
-
If the warm color makes your skin look muddy or sallow, and the cool color brightens your eyes and cheeks, you’re likely cool.
💡 Pro Tip: The skin always wins. Hair or eye color might fool you, but if the color doesn’t harmonize with your skin—it’s not right for you.
❗ Common Undertone Mistakes
-
Confusing surface tone with undertone:
Redness or rosiness doesn’t always mean you’re cool-toned. Many warm-toned women have red cheeks or pinkish skin. -
Letting gray hair confuse you:
Gray hair can shift your coloring, especially as you age. What worked at 30 may not flatter you at 50. That’s why re-evaluating your color palette is so important.
🎯 Still Not Sure? I Can Help.
Color is subtle. Sometimes our eyes can trick us, and what looks “fine” in your bathroom mirror might not actually be your most flattering.
