Oscars 2025: A Masterclass in Color Theory and Style Trends

The Oscars 2025 red carpet delivered glamour, drama, and a whole lot of color lessons! From stunning fashion hits to surprising style missteps, this year’s event was a masterclass in color theory—and we’re breaking it all down in our latest episode of Midlife Moxie!

🎥 Watch the full episode below to see who nailed their colors and who totally missed the mark!

Who Got Their Colors Right?

The best-dressed celebrities weren’t just wearing gorgeous outfits—they were wearing the right colors for their skin tone, hair, and overall contrast. Here are a few of our absolute favorites:

Michelle Yeoh in Royal Blue – This bold, vibrant shade was perfect for her deep, rich coloring and made her stand out effortlessly.

Gal Gadot in Fiery Red – A statuesque beauty in a power color! This red was the right depth and undertone for her, making her look radiant.

Lupita Nyong'o in White – Her deep skin tone created a high-contrast, striking effect that made her pale dress a total knockout.

Selena Gomez in Warm Copper – This look was a perfect example of monochromatic styling done right—her warm-toned skin and deep hair contrasted beautifully with her bronzy gown.

Who Missed the Mark?

Not every celeb had a winning color moment. Some washed themselves out, while others picked shades that clashed with their natural tones.

🙅‍♀️ Ariana Grande in Pale Blush – With her golden skin and blonde hair (leftover from Wicked), this washed-out blush shade made her look too muted. A deeper warm pink would have been much better.

🙅‍♀️ Elle Fanning in Black & White – This stark contrast did nothing for her soft, warm-toned complexion. A rich warm hue would have been more flattering.

🙅‍♀️ Emma Stone in Blush Tones – While trendy, this shade didn’t complement her vibrant, high-contrast features. A stronger, warmer shade could have enhanced her natural beauty.

🙅‍♀️ Connie Nielsen in Cool Pink & Mismatched Accessories – With a warm spray tan and golden features, the icy pale pink dress clashed horribly. To top it off, her bold cool-toned jewelry only made the look more chaotic.

The Men Brought Their A-Game

For once, the men stole the show! We saw some major trends in tuxedos and accessories that are shaking up men’s fashion.

🔥 Wide-Leg Tuxedo Pants – We saw flared and looser trousers, moving away from the ultra-skinny styles of past years. Robert Downey Jr. and Andrew Garfield rocked this trend effortlessly.

🔥 Unexpected Colors – Andrew Garfield's rich brown tuxedo was a standout, perfectly complementing his warm-toned hair and beard. Jeremy Strong took a risk with his olive-green look, and while it sparked debate (ahem, Jen and Gail), it was undeniably bold.

🔥 Brooches & Statement AccessoriesMen’s jewelry was everywhere—from brooches to standout necklaces. This could be a sign that more unique accessories are making their way into mainstream men’s fashion!

Takeaways: What Can YOU Learn from the Oscars?

👗 Know your best colors – The right color makes you look fresh, radiant, and put together. The wrong color? It can wash you out or make you look tired.

🎨 Pay attention to contrast – If you have deeper features, embrace contrast with richer, bolder hues. If you’re fairer, soft colors can be flattering—but don’t let them drain you!

💎 Accessories matter – Thoughtfully chosen accessories (like the right jewelry or even a well-placed brooch!) can elevate a look.

👖 Wide-leg pants are back! – We’ve seen this trend from the Super Bowl to the Oscars—get ready to embrace looser silhouettes in menswear and beyond.
