Do your vein colors help you know your undertones?

Does vein color help find your undertones?

Does vein color help find your undertones?

I challenge the theory that the color of your veins can determine your undertones. In my opinion, this theory is not accurate as I have warm undertones despite having blue veins. Please do not put too much weight into the vein concept and instead look at other factors such as your eyes, skin, and hair to determine your color type.

Take the color analysis quiz

Your vein color, in my opinion, does not really help you very much trying to learn your color type and your undertones. I've heard this theory before. If you have blue veins, you have cool undertones, and if you have green veins or blue-green veins, you have warm undertones. But I have yet to really see that truly be accurate.

In my case, I have warm undertones. You can see that I'm wearing this peachy sweater, blonde hair, green eyes, warm skin. I have warm undertones. And if I look at my veins, they look blue. That doesn't really tell me much of anything, so in my opinion, don't put a lot of weight into the vein concept.

Really look at yourself. Your eyes, your skin, and your hair. Go through the steps in the color analysis quiz, and that should help figure out what colors flatter you best, and most importantly, to learn what colors to avoid that drain you or overpower you.

  • Thank you for this great article challenging the vein undertone theory. 99% of everyone else says it’s true— but it’s not for me either. Wondering if you can tell me what you think. It seems I have light warm skin, but cool toned eyes and hair. I mostly wear cool colors. I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong.

I have fair to light skin with a yellow tone, but very little color in my face. Warm/ yellow tone foundations blend, but cool/pink tone foundations look very pink on my skin and absolutely do not blend. In not sure about peach tone.I have one — not sure if it blends as well as the yellow tone.

I have gray-blue eyes and medium blonde hair color, with some warmth.. My natural color is the mousy taupe color that blonde turns into.. I was a towhead as a child. Silver and rose gold look best on me. Gold makes my skin look yellow.

I’d say my eyes and hair go more with cool colors. I mostly wear cool /summer colors. I tried warm/ Spring years ago years ago, and didn’t like how they looked on me. I think it’s likely that I may borrow some colors from other seasons, but the bulk of my wardrobe is summer. I need to wear black a lot for performing in recitals, a little black dresses are so much easier to find than dresses of different colors. I have found that navy is a “friendlier black” for me.

So I have warm, toned skin, but wear cool colors. Is that weird? Am I breaking the rules?
