What to Wear for Thanksgiving!

What to Wear for Thanksgiving!

The holidays are officially here for the US, and with it comes "what should I wear?" So let's explore some options to wear for Thanksgiving and the following weekend.

TRAVEL

Thanksgiving Looks

We often forget the "travel look". Since my family travels frequently, I actually shop for clothing that is travel friendly. Shopping well is the first step in having a great wardrobe. For travel, consider the following:

  • Weather at departure and arrival destinations, do you need layers?
  • What is your mode of travel, will I need to remove shoes in airport? what will be comfortable? will I have control of temperature in route?
  • How will the outfit look upon arrival? Will it wrinkle easily?
  • Is it easy to use a public restroom in this outfit?
  • If a long travel day, does the outfit show stains or pick up lint?
  • Does it have pockets to help hold items while on the move?

Some of my favorite travel looks are two piece sets made of scuba knit, ponte, or "sweatpant" material.

COOKING

Are you the hostess? If so, this can be tricky. You want to look nice, but also may be spending a lot of the day in a hot kitchen. Here are some tips:

  • Have a nice apron
  • Consider a layer that you can put on after cooking
  • Make sure sleeves will not get into food
  • Give yourself breathing room around the neckline
  • If needed, wear button up tops and make a quick change after the meal is prepared
  • Avoid delicate and dry clean fabrics that may become soiled

GUEST

What to Wear For Thanksgiving
  • Consider the location and the other attendees
  • What activities will be taking place
  • Will you be eating a lot?
  • What will be the climate/temperature? A gorgeous sweater may look great, but cause a sweat to break out. If traveling to multiple events, keep in mind that each may be a different temperature.
  • Will there be a crowd? Could you wind up sitting on the floor?

GAME DAY

  • Consider team colors
  • Check out the cozy knits and upscale sweatsuits

SHOPPING

  • Stores may be warm, so dress in layers
  • You may be doing lots of walking or standing, so wear comfy shoes

I hope tips help you pull together an outfit for Thanksgiving that suits your lifestyle.
